Restoration of Forest
Cottages
Restoration work 2007/2008
The
current owners, Paul and Michelle Martin, bought The Forest
in July 2007 and work began in September. The
outbuildings of The Forest proved to be in a critical
condition and work was far more extensive than expected. Work
began in January 2008 and continued for a full year.

None of the timbers in the coach house could be saved. The
floor and roof were rebuilt using reclaimed slate and and new
drainage, electrics and plumbing installed.

The old coach house was finally brought back to life as part
of Forest Keep.
 An
important feature of the coach house was its bell tower which
was carefully rebuilt around its original oak pillars. Its
new lead roof and restored weather vane are a testament to
the skill of the builders involved.
The renovations on
The Forest country house took 8 months
and were sensitively carried out to respect the original
architecture of the 1880s. The roof was
completely replaced in reclaimed welsh slate, new plumbing
replaced the old iron pipes and the house was rewired to
replace old rubber cables. The "intricate scheme of
drainage" of 1912 was found to be far from adequate so a
modern new drainage system was installed.
